Polynesian Music at The Fat Camel Backpackers Auckland

November 3rd, 2007

Nomads Fat Camel Hostel & Bar went off last night! Everyone in the bar was treated to a Polynesian music extravaganza.

Toa Ura at The Fat Camel

We’re very lucky to have a group of 17 people from Tahiti staying with us at the moment and after chatting to them we discovered that they were a band with dancers.

Toa Ura Dancers

The night was fantastic and Toa Ura (the band) were loved by all and are now famous at The Fat Camel Hostel Auckland. A huge thanks to all of the band who made a Tuesday night in the bar unbelievable. Related website: hair drug test and detox.

Diving in Cairns with Esplanade Backpackers

October 20th, 2007

Esplanade Backpackers Cairns receptionist had the pleasure to join Taka on their awesome trip to the Cod Holes and Ribbon Reef. Nothing less than 10 dives including 2 night dives spread over 4 days and 3 nights. For someone who hasn’t done a night dive before, a bit scary in the beginning. What if there is a shark *freak out*!!!

The trip is definitely something that dive fans have to do whilst in Cairns. The dive spots are amazing, large variety of coral, too much fish to get bored, impressive Cod feet and the boat is amazing. Comfy couches, great crew and the food….. oh my god…. can they come and cook for me all the time! Orgasmic:D

Double Whammy!!!

October 12th, 2007

Last weekend we both celebrated and farewelled in one of the most anticipated evenings in Nomads Industry Melbourne Hostel Backpacker’s recent history - Karaoke night! It had been rumoured for weeks with the yaying and naying of organisation with the whole night almost falling to pieces when we couldn’t find a karaoke machine. Not one to be beaten, Industry Melbourne bar manager Nick thought outside the box and bought karaoke DVD’s to play on the internal sound system. Karaoke was a go!

Jordi De Vries, a piece of the Nomads Industry Melbourne Backpackers furniture, was turning 29. As a much loved member of the Melbourne backpackers, we all wanted to make it a night to remember. Coupled with this very justifiable reason to party, our very own Hannah Nickerson was moving on after spending many months not only staying at the Melbourne youth hostelbut also working her cute little english butt off cleaning, food serving and night wardening. To add a little spark, a school days theme was embraced by all.

We started the evenings festivities with the traditional chocolate birthday cake that , despite no-one being able to keep a secret, caused Jordi to tear up with joy and humility.

The school days theme was not embraced by all. Some could not participate due to work commitments. However, even with all the warning, the costumes still shocked and baffled those remaining sober.

Then, without ANY further delay, the karaoke could begin…

The enthusiasm was inspiring.

The night woudn’t end without a touching moment between two good friends, Jordi and Kenny.

Blend Bar and Cafe Wellington’s table antics

October 9th, 2007

Blend Bar and Cafe Wellington has been experiencing some rowdy behaviour lately, primarily as a result of their latest and greatest drink specials.

The Wellington backpackers from next door at Nomads Capital Backpackers  Wellington have been coming over in droves for their free nightly meal and a few cheeky drinks.

n532361948_183402_2781.jpg Shotski taken table top!

The latest trend at this Wellington barhas been the impulsive displays of dancing.. table top. Participants range from our German wellington backpackers to Blend Bar staff and even the Nomads director couldn’t resist the urge to showing off his madcap dance moves.

So we say farewell to our Melbourne backpackers…

September 30th, 2007

It was with much sadness and alcohol that we said goodbye to two of our longest guests here at Nomads Industry Backpackers Melbourne, Mark and Louise, this week.

Having first stayed at the Melbourne youth hostel in February this year, Louise and Mark have been the international face of Nomads Melbourne Backpackers for more than half the year. To mark the auspicious occasion, Louise organised a party with a pirate theme in the Industry Melbourne backpackers bar. Needless to say, our Melbourne backpackers went all out with tattoos (real and fake) eye patches and swords. The only thing missing was the wooden leg!

Louise and Mark

As with all Nomad Backpackers Melbourne parties, there were games, prizes and much much drinking. The most popular and anticipated announcement being that of best dressed. With so much effort going into so many costumes, counting proved many contenders. More than six were in the running for best dressed, five for ‘tried hard’ and seven for ’shiver me timbers, you’re costume is making me sea sick’.

imgp0846.jpg  imgp08571.jpg

Although, even with so many worthy combatants, there were clear winners in each category.

Tried hard was the night’s MC and our resident entertainer - George English (from Ireland!!)

imgp0829.jpg

The guest making us sea sick was our longest resident Dutchman, Jordi Di Vries!

imgp0840.jpg

Best dressed went to Kipper!!!

imgp0851.jpg

In the end, the backpackers joined together for a group sing along of Jordi’s theme song, Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York!

imgp0883.jpg

Including one of our own receptionists (making the most of reading the roster incorrectly and finding herself with a free Saturday night!), Haley Berryman!
